Should you encounter a problem over the weekend or during the holidays, please follow the advice listed below:

If you experience any discomfort from the wire parts of the brace, try placing wax (provided at the start of treatment) over the sharp area. Should you not have any wax at hand, you may try using softened sugar-free chewing gum as an emergency solution.

If the wire has come out of the bracket slot, gently try slide the wire back into the bracket using tweezers. Should this not be possible, place wax over the loose end of the wire to ensure you are comfortable in the interim.

Problems During Lingual Fixed Brace Treatment

Brackets bonded to the inside of teeth

As these brackets and wires are individualised for your teeth, it is very important that you do not try remove the brackets or cut the wires yourself!

Should you encounter a problem over the weekend or during the holidays, please follow the advice listed below:

If one or more brackets have lost their bond to the teeth, please do not wait until your scheduled next appointment to have this repaired as unwanted tooth movements can occur very quickly. Brackets are held onto the archwire with elastic or metal ligatures, so there shouldn’t be any danger of swallowing the bracket. Gently try reposition the loose bracket onto the tooth and cover with wax if necessary.

If the last bracket in the arch has come loose, gently try slide it off the wire using tweezers. This may leave an unsupported piece of wire at the end which can be covered with some wax. Please keep this bracket in a safe place and bring it with you to your next visit! Each bracket is specially custom made for your teeth at a laboratory in Germany, and further costs may be incurred if a new bracket needs to be ordered.

Problems during Aligner Treatment

Should you experience problems during your aligner treatment, please contact my rooms to make a special appointment. You can also easily book an SOS appointment online via this website.

Should you encounter a problem over the weekend or during the holidays, please follow the advice listed below:

If you have lost one of your aligners, please use the next aligner in the number sequence. Should this not fit perfectly, or you do not yet have the next aligner, please use the previous aligner in the number sequence. Each aligner has a small black number printed on it to help you identify which aligner to use. Holding the aligner over a white piece of paper will make this small number easier to read.

If an attachment has come loose, please continue to wear the aligners as usual. The attachment will be rebonded at your next appointment.

If the aligner edge is irritating a specific area of the gum or soft tissue, try using a clean nail file to gently smooth off the offending area.
